KhayJ is a Swedish-West African rapper based in Seoul, South Korea. She grew up in a multicultural environment with cultural influences from Ghana, Cape Verde and Swedish. After graduating high school, she moved to Korea to attend University, where she also re-discovered her passion for music.
KhayJ sang in her local church choir for 10 years, before starting high school, when she developed an interest in dancing. After taking up dancing she has performed at various international stages and been on TV. In 2022 she appeared on the Korean TV show 때춤, followed by an appearance in 100DNAcers in 2023. She's also been performing together with the Korean dance crew Hook since November 2023, appearing at award shows and festivals such as Water bomb.
While pursuing her dancing career, KhayJ rediscovered her passion for music through a student association she was part of. Through the student association, KhayJ got to refine her lyrical composition abilities, cadences as well as her stage manner.
KhayJ grew up constantly listening to music, primarily 90s and early 2000s hiphop and RnB. These influences can be observed in KhayJ's lyrics as she often uses rhyme schemes reminiscent of early hiphop. While her lyrics and cadences take inspiration from the hiphop genre, KhayJ usually works on beats reminiscent of the teen pop genre, giving way to a fresh, new sound.
